INTRODUCTION

This is my journal of the creative ideas I explored with my daughter Grace over this school year. I'm posting them so that kids, teachers and parents might be encouraged to try some of them, or be inspired to make up their own. It's to show you I practice what I preach, and hopefully you'll like some of the ideas and pictures of what we try. Grace was five when we went on this adventure, but any young child would benefit from such exploration. Come, join us on our journey! I hope it will inspire you.

What about the rest of us?

I know that many of you might say, it's easy for an artist to be creative with kids... what about those of us who aren't talented in that way?

Good question. My answer is that what matters most isn't what you actually do, just what you try. What kids need are experiences which open the door for them to use their imaginations. Looking at paintings, making up stories, dancing to music -- you don't need special talent to do those. Just commit time to go on your own adventure with your child. And maybe my ideas will spark your own.
