Writing can be fun! Whether the task is a narrative or a poem or an expository essay, kids can see writing as an exciting adventure. But how do we make it that way? That's where I can help.

Starting in the fall of 2008, I will be sending out a weekly email called The Sparkler. Each short email will have a short glimpse into the creative writing process. Some weeks I'll give tips on writing with kids; other weeks I'll share a quote or a true story from a famous creative person. My goal is to keep igniting your own creativity as you help students to write.

Creativity is my life. Whether I'm brainstorming stories with elementary students, illustrating a picture book, writing a novel, or creating new story-starters for my website, ideas are flying. I think about creativity just about every day. I'd love to share some of my thoughts with you.
